The announcement that the Apex Legends Global Series Championship would be played in the US state came via the Apex Legends’ official Twitter page.

“GET THOSE TICKETS! Were bringing the #ALGS Year 2 Championship to the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, on July 7-10! Get your tickets now and learn about schedules, teams, prizing, and more. We’ll see you there.”

Fans will be allowed to witness every stage of the tournament, unlike other esports events which limit fan presence to the playoff stages. Although details regarding the size of the crowd to be expected were not given, they will likely be in their thousands.

Note that this will be the first time a live audience will be admitted into an ALGS event since the game’s debut in 2019, with the covid pandemic wiping out any hope of crowds attending.

In EA’s press release, they revealed the size of the arena and are also looking forward to welcoming the ALGS community to a live location.

“For the first time, the ALGS community will be able to come together to cheer on their favorite teams live at the PNC Arena, in Raleigh, NC. The 700,000-square-foot space will accommodate thousands of fans from around the world for the largest ALGS competition to-date.”

The Senior Direction and Commissioner of Apex Legends at EA John Nelson spoke about the event. He highlighted that it was a major milestone for the brand.

“Bringing ALGS to the PNC Arena is a major milestone for the Apex brand and indicative of the titles continued growth in the competitive scene,” he said.

“The ALGS Championship is a true celebration of fandom, and were looking forward to delivering the first-ever live ALGS Championship experience for our community of players and the residents of Raleigh.”

The folks at PNC are also thrilled to be hosting the event as it will also be a first for them. Don Waddell, PNC Arena and Carolina Hurricanes President, talked about their excitement in delving into the esports scene.

“We are excited to work with Electronic Arts to stage their first Apex Legends Global Series Championship to a live audience.

“We proudly present a variety of sports and entertainment events at PNC Arena, and we are looking forward to hosting our first-ever major esports competition.

“The ALGS Championship will allow us the opportunity to further solidify Greater Raleigh and PNC Arena as a global esports and entertainment destination.”

Forty teams will compete in the offline event, all fighting for a larger piece of the $2 million prize fund. While every team will not go home empty-handed, the winner of this event will walk away with $500,000.

The event is scheduled to run from July 7 to July 10. On opening day, fans will be treated to a plethora of matches as all 40 teams square off against each other in the group stage.

While every team will advance to the bracket stage, their standings will determine where they will be seeded to. The best 10 teams in the group stage will get slots in the winners’ bracket round 2.

The 11th to 30th-placed teams will get seeded to the winners’ bracket round 1. The remaining ten teams with the worst group stage score will start the bracket stage in the losers bracket round 1.

EA is coming off a record-breaking event and will be looking to keep the streak going. The recently-concluded Stockholm ALGS Split 2 playoffs was their first LAN event this year, and it broke all-time viewership records.

Reignite won the event with 78 total points in the finals, walking away with $250,000 of the $1 million prize pool.

Given the recent state of things, several changes regarding roster and representatives are expected. Russian players might be denied visas to the US (US betting sites) while those from Ukraine might not be able to leave their country.

The COVID-19 travel restrictions in China (best Chinese esports betting sites) might also affect some players from China to make it to the offline event.
