On Monday, Nakama announced the departure of two Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players, Richard “shox” Papillon and Jason “Kyojin” Nguyen Van, from their lineup.

The organization did not give any reason for the move but informed fans that the duo would continue as substitutes for their ESEA matches when necessary.

“We inform you today of the removal of shox and Kyojin from the active roster. We would like to thank the 2 players for the investment and the heart given to the project,” a translation of the post read.

“While waiting to find their replacements, they will continue to help us for ESEA matches as stand-ins if necessary.”

With the departure of the players, Nakama consists of Jeremy “?Kursy?” Gast, Matthieu “Razzmo” Mellot, and Ryan “?Neityu?” Aubry, with Boris “?flex0r?” Latry as coach.

shox started competing with Nakama at the start of the year when the organization was founded. As one of the main figures of the squad, he set qualifying for the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 as their target.

Nakama however failed to qualify for the Major after facing elimination at the BLAST Paris Major Europe RMR Open Qualifier. The team were beaten by Let Us Cook in the RMR with a 16-12 scoreboard.

shox also announced his departure from the French lineup via a TwitLonger, revealing that he felt like leaving the team was the right decision to make.

“This choice was not easy to make, but it was essential for my future. I put everything aside since the beginning of the year to make this project work,” shox wrote.

“Unfortunately today, being a father, beyond the financial aspect, managing everything that needs to be managed requires a lot of energy and time, so I choose to focus on my role as a player.”

shox added that he hoped his efforts helped the rest of the teammates on the squad to become even better players. The player also clarified that his desire to play CS:GO was still as great as ever, and he hoped to find a team with similar views.

Kyojin joined Nakama in March this year in place of Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux following the team’s failure to qualify for the BLAST Paris Major. He previously played with shox on Team Vitality, winning the IEM Winter 2021 with the French man.

The duo was eventually benched in favor of Emil “?Magisk?” Reif and Peter “?dupreeh?” Rasmussen.

In a Twitter post on Friday, Nakama announced the signing of Matthieu “Razzmo” Mellot and Jayson “Kyojin” Nguyen Van into their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive lineup.

“It is with great joy that we inform you that we have found our two replacements! Welcome @Razzmo_ and @KyojinCSGO to the family,” Nakama wrote.

The move marks the completion of the roster after Paul “day0s” Niel and Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux were taken off Nakama’s lineup last Monday. The players were benched after the team failed to secure a spot in the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

Nakama were formed in January in preparation for the Paris Major but were eliminated in the open qualifiers. This turn of events prompted the French esports organization to make some changes to their roster.

Day0s’ departure from Nakama was due to his inability to adapt to the team’s gameplay, while SmithZz was initially never supposed to stay on as a player. He was expected to move to a managerial position after injecting as much experience into the lineup as possible.

The move will reunite Kyojin with his former Vitality teammate Richard “?shox?” Papillon, after playing together for less than a year. With the duo on the lineup, Vitality recorded impressive feats like winning the IEM Winter 2021. Koyjin and shox were eventually taken off the active lineup shortly after the tournament in favor of Emil “?Magisk?” Reif and Peter “?dupreeh?” Rasmussen.

Since leaving Vitality, Kyojin has played with Falcons and Mixfits, where he averaged a 1.08 rating. The player started on Falcons’ lineup in February 2022; however, he was benched five months later due to his disappointing performance.

Razzmo, on his end, played for HEET, recording a 0.88 rating during his time on the rebuilt lineup. The figure is no particular surprise because of the player’s inexperience. Razzmo recorded only eight maps before HEET signed him earlier this year.

Nakama’s updated roster includes Jeremy “?Kursy?” Gast, Ryan “?Neityu?” Aubry, shox, Kyojin, and Razzmo. The roster made their debut on March 4 during the open European qualifiers for Elisa Invitational Spring 2023. The lineup are also slated to participate in the French national championship ESL Championnat National Spring 2023 set for this spring.

Nakama announced on February 27 that Paul “?day0s?” Niel and Edouard “?SmithZz?” Dubourdeaux were no longer a part of their starting CS:GO roster. The French lineup spent less than two months together prior to the announcement.

Concerning the reason for the departures, Nakama revealed that the players’ performances had not been up to the standard. The team notably failed to qualify for the fast-approaching BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe RMR.

“We have decided to part ways with SmithZz and day0s. A big thank you to them for being part of the adventure, we wish them the best in their future projects. We are currently evaluating various possibilities for the future,” Nakama wrote.

“This decision had to be taken following the results that were too far from the objectives. Paul and Eddy being present since the launch, it was not an easy choice. They will not be forgotten. We will keep you informed of the next steps.”

SmithZz and day0s were part of Nakama’s original lineup, which formed in January this year. The team were eliminated from the Regional Major Ranking open qualifiers, while other French teams like HEET, Falcons, and LDLC reached the closed qualifiers.

According to SmithZz, he was not supposed to be a permanent addition to the lineup. During Nakama’s announcement stream, he explained that he was supposed to inject as much leadership and experience into the team and participate in the qualifier for the major before moving to a managerial position.

Day0s, on the other hand, was signed due to his performance and achievements on the FACEIT global ladder. The player, however, was not able to properly assimilate his gameplay with the rest of the team during his time there.

Following Nakama’s announcement, day0s posted a TwitLonger explaining that he was initially unaware of how difficult it would be to work with a team in such little time. He also promised to join an FR/INTER project to properly learn to align his gameplay with team gameplay and gain more experience.

“As you might have seen on the tweet from @nakama_esports, Eddy “smithzz” and myself have been kicked from the project, it’s a decision which definitely makes sense for myself,” the player wrote.

“I couldn’t adapt myself to this team gameplay that we brought in, I wasn’t aware enough from the difficulties it would be to adapt my own gameplay to a teamplay within little time, I’m still happy that i’ve had the chance to play with 2 legends, and 2 youngsters that might become legends.”

“From now on I will be looking for FR/INTER project where I can learn how to fit my gameplay to a team gameplay and where I can gain a bit more experience!”

With the departure of SmithZz and day0s, Nakama are left with three players on their active lineup – Jeremy “?Kursy?” Gast, Richard “?shox?” Papillon, and Ryan “?Neityu?” Aubry with Boris “?flex0r?” Latry as head coach.

Nakama have little time to sort out their roster ahead of the ESL Championnat National Spring 2023 France, which starts in early March.
