On Tuesday, the North American esports organization Cloud9 announced the disbanding of their all-female Valorant team, Cloud9 White.
?
The team was originally an orgless Valorant squad called MAJKL before signing with Cloud9 in October.
?
Prior to the dissolution of the roster, it was made up of 20-year-old American player Alexis “alexis” Guarrasi, Canadian player Jasmine “Jazzyk1ns” Manankil, 22-year-old American player Katja “katsumi” Pfahnl, Melanie “meL” Capone, and Australian player Bob “Bob” Tran, who joined the team in June 2022.
?
Cloud9 White made a good run in the 2022 season, with strong placings at both top- and lower-tier events. They soared into first place at the 2022 Valorant Champions Tour: Game Changers North America Series 1, where they trashed Shopify Rebellion GC in a match that ended 3-0. The team also emerged in first place at both Series 2 and Series 3 of the event.

Last month in Berlin, Germany, at the VCT 2022: Game Changers Championship, the team finished in fourth place after losing 1-2 to Shopify Rebellion GC in a hard-fought semifinal.
?
The organization said in a tweet that the departing Cloud9 White roster had forged “a legacy of excellence, dominance, and 6x Championships”.

Cloud9 also published a blog post in which they detailed the squad’s achievements.
?
“Valorant White was Cloud9’s first Women’s Valorant team and was quickly established as one of the top teams in the game. With Cloud9, the team had an impressive run, including 6 first-place VCT [Valorant Champions Tour] Game Changers finishes, and a top 4 finish at the VCT Game Changers Championship,” Cloud9 wrote.
?
Jack Etienne, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cloud9, also said: “We’re proud to have had the chance to work with such a talented team of women and to have been a part of their success.”
?
The General Manager of Cloud9 White, Ysabel Müller, explained that he is pleased with all that they have accomplished in the past two years.
?
“Seeing this team thrive in the Game Changers scene and beyond has brought us so much joy at Cloud9. I am thankful and proud of everything we have achieved over the last two years. I am sure every player here will continue to break boundaries in esports!” said Müller.
?
According to reports, most of the players have already made their way to new teams. MeL and alexis are supposedly on their way to the North American team VersionX, while Bob and Katsumi are both set to sign with XSET Purple.
?
Alexis, like the rest of the players, expressed her delight at having had the opportunity to represent Cloud9.
?
“My time with Cloud9 has been an unforgettable experience and I’m so thankful for everything they did to support my teammates and me. Two years ago, I never could have imagined I’d be afforded the opportunities I have today as a professional VALORANT player. Cloud9 played a major role in establishing Game Changers and it was an honor to have been a part of this defining legacy,” Alexis said.
?
It is unknown where Jazzyk1ns will be heading, or if she has started negotiations with any teams. However, she expressed her gratitude to Cloud9 for a blissful Valorant journey.
?
“It’s been a journey getting here today. Now that C9 White is parting ways, I’ve never been more grateful for the experience of being on one of the best GC teams. I’m determined to keep grinding and learning every day. My journey doesn’t end here, it has just begun,” she said.
?
“To the fans: I want to thank you for your support since the MAJKL days. I sincerely appreciate you believing in us and cheering us on these past 2 years. Most importantly, I hope you’ll continue to support each of our individual journeys in 2023. I love you all.”

All of the 2022 Cloud9 White roster are reportedly on course to become free agents after an impressive fourth-place finish at the Valorant Game Changers Championship in Berlin.

The core of Cloud9 White has been united since September 2020, when they were known as MAJKL. In December 2020, the team was acquired by C9, and since then it has been the most formidable group in the North American Game Changers scene, winning every single edition.

C9 White were favorites to win the first international Game Changers Championship. The event, which took place in Berlin, Germany, from November 15-20, featured teams from all over the world and came with a prize pool of US$500,000.

After a successful opening victory against KRü, Cloud9 White were eliminated from the upper bracket by G2 Gozen in the semifinals. As a result, they were placed in the lower bracket and faced the challenge of winning four consecutive matches to ultimately claim the trophy.

In the following match, Cloud9 White were able to defeat Guild X, setting them up for a confrontation with Shopify Rebellion. C9 had previously outperformed their North American rivals; however, on this occasion, Shopify Rebellion emerged with a 2-1 series victory, thus eliminating Cloud9 White from the tournament.

Although it is yet to be announced, it has been reported by multiple sources that the Cloud9 White roster will no longer be operating under the C9 banner. The future plans for the members are currently unknown.

A few months earlier, one of the core members of the team from the original MAJKL roster, Annie “Annie” Roberts, transitioned from the active lineup to become a streamer with the franchise. She was replaced by Australian player Bob “Bob” Tran. In September, Cloud9 White parted ways with coach Reid “xOtek” Johnson, releasing him from his contract.

Annie Roberts, who has been on Cloud9 White’s team for a year and a half, is leaving competitive VALORANT to concentrate on content production.

Annie has had tremendous success in the VCT NA Game Changers competitions during her stay with Cloud9 White. She and her squad have won four Game Changers events while losing only a few matches.

Cloud9 took to their official Twitter page to say they are grateful to still have the player in their organization, irrespective of her decision to seize playing.

“Today @Anie_Dro steps down from the Cloud9 White competitive roster and joins our stream team as a content creator.

“Thank you for being part of such a legendary roster and we’re glad you’re staying.”

Annie stated in a TwitLonger that the news may have caught the public?off guard, but that she had been considering leaving the squad for some time. She attributes her choice to lengthy work days and fatigue.

“I?think it’s obvious where this goes, working obsessively over 70 hours a week was destroying my mental health and motivation as time went on until eventually I got very sick of playing,” Annie said.

“I also feel like because of this, I was plateauing as a player and not making any improvements which just made me feel worse and added further mental deterioration.”

Annie will now be available to stream on C9 Umbrella. During the time that she is focusing on improving both her physical and mental health, she has stated that she will resume streaming a range of games and will produce content that is enjoyable.

However, there won’t be a vacuum in the lineup because Annie will be replaced by Bob Tran, who was a member of Soniqs in the past. Bob is a skilled player, and many people speculated that she would be added to a men’s squad; nonetheless, it has been decided that she will fill the open slot on Cloud9 White that Annie vacated.

Recently, Bob was playing for the Susquehanna Soniqs, which is a team based in Philadelphia. After Bob became a free agent in March, there was significant conjecture over the direction in which she might take her career. Now that she has found a home with one of the greatest teams in women’s VALORANT, her addition will guarantee that Cloud9 White will continue to be the squad that other teams must strive to defeat.
?
Later this month, supporters of Bob and Cloud9 White will get the opportunity to watch them battle against one another. On June 30, 2022,?the second VCT NA Game Changers competition will get underway.
