The South Korean esports organization has decided to retain the services of the League of Legends player till the end of 2023.

The contract extension shows the franchise trust in the 21-year old as he will remain on the roster for another 18 months.

Arnold Hur, Chief Executive Officer of Gen.G spoke about the Chovy contract extension. He shared his excitement for Chovy accepting the contract extension and trusting the franchise for the entirety of the Spring Split. He stated that Chovy bought into the franchise’s long-term vision for its League of Legends team and esports organization in general.

He complimented the laner, describing him as a game-changer. Hur revealed that he was not going to pass up the opportunity to have the superstar remain on the team.

I am thrilled Chovy trusted us throughout the Spring Split and into our long-term vision for the LoL team and esports program in general, Hur stated. This guy isnt just good, hes a game changer. Any chance you have to sign a superstar like him, you have to take it.

Reacting to the extension, Chovy claimed he decided to remain with the team having been assured of a successful future. He promised to reciprocate the trust and support he has been showered by the organization, teammates, and fans likewise. He also revealed that he has his sight set on the championship title in the summer season.

I was assured of a successful future with the teams utmost support, and I decided to continue my journey with Gen.G, Chovy said. I will do my best to repay the support from the team and fans, aiming for the championship title in the upcoming summer season.

With Gen.Gs contract extension, this becomes the first time Chovy has been given a contract by a franchise for more than a year. Having spent only two days in Gwangju in 2017, Chovy started his journey in the League of Legends Championship Korea with Griffin in 2018.

He has spent the most time of his career with the Griffin, representing the team for a year and eight months. He soon became a sensation within the roster and registered himself as one of LCKs rising stars. After his amazing rookie run, Griffin re-signed him in 2019 as he showed promise.

After his run with Griffin, Chovy made his way to Dragon X where he featured for about eleven months and 12 days. After his stint with DRX, he represented Hanwha Life Esports in 2021, before joining Gen.G. Having already spent 6 months with the franchise, Chovy looks forward to remaining with the team soon for another 18 months, making it the longest span he has spent with an organization.

With Chovy on the roster, Gen.G had a strong campaign at the LCK 2022 Spring, finishing second after a 15-3 record. Unfortunately, a defeat to T1 in the Spring Finals deprived the team of being Spring champions. The LCK 2022 run is enough motivation to get Chovy thinking about the championship title.

While Chovy has won almost everything there is including a Player of the Split award, seven semifinal finishes in the LCK, and three World’s quarterfinals finishes. The superstar is yet to get his hands on a championship title as he looks forward to doing just that with Gen.G.

The franchise commences its LCK Summer Split campaign with a fixture against KT Rolster on Thursday, June 16. Esports betting sites have pegged KT Rolster as underdogs and rightly so, with Gen.G designated a moneyline odd of $1.20.
